My deepest gratitude to Namo Shakyamuni Buddha, the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Dharma Protectors, Master Lu and my dear Dharma friends.
Since young, I had had problems communicating with my dad. This problem took a turn for the worse following the collapse of his business venture and the ensuing financial misfortune that befell my family. My family dynamics became very strained. Oftentimes, my dad would get agitated at home and in many of those emotional outbursts, among the siblings, I had to bear the brunt of his verbal and physical abuses.
For more than 30 years, I was never allowed to speak my mind or given an opportunity to make a decision. Most of the time, I had to give in because as the head of the family, my father would like to have a final say on most, if not all, things. To put it bluntly, he was domineering and was a tough cookie.
Squabbles and bickering were part and parcel of my family life. When things went out of control, my father would start throwing and breaking things at home. Petrified by the domestic violence, my siblings and I would go into hiding. Once, he even broke my mom’s arm and she subsequently refused to return home for a month. This is how troubled my childhood was.
Now that I have my own family, I would drop by to visit my parents almost every week. To avoid arguments, my parents and I rarely talked unless it was really necessary. In one of my recent visits, my dad screamed at me over a small matter but I chose to keep quiet in order not to make things worse. Deep down, I was upset because no matter how much I showed my love for him, he would never change.
At my wit’s end, I decided to confide in the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Knowing that these are manifestations of past-life karmas, the next day, I made 3 great vows:
– To recite 7 Little Houses;
– To perform life liberation of 500 fishes; and
– To utilise 20% of the merits accrued in this life to untie the karmic knots.
Without hesitation, I started reciting the said 7 Little Houses and completed them in 3 days. When I met my dad on the 4th day, I was taken aback when my dad gently talked to me. He even expressed his regrets over his recent past unruly behaviour. Up to today, I still can’t believe that my strained relationship would be resolved within such a short period! It’s a miracle because my dad had never talked to me in such a gentle tone. This would not have been possible without the blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
I will sincerely help more people to get to know about Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door and I am determined to be one of the thousand arms and thousand eyes of Guan Yin Bodhisattva.
