Deepest gratitude to everyone.
Prior to 2017, I did not have the opportunity to hear the dharma and understand the Law of Cause and Effect. My life was driven by greed, anger and ignorance and I continuously created negative karma. When the negative karma ripened, I had no choice but to bear the consequences of my evil acts! Hurting others with evil speech, having a big temper, destroying Buddhist statues, performing abortions, sexual misconduct and theft, I had committed all the 10 unwholesome courses of action, without doing any good. Eventually I was subjected to untold misery when the negative karma came to fruition.
In mid-September 2017, I had a shock of my life when I was diagnosed with cervical cancer. I felt as if my life had come to an end. I asked myself, “What should I do?”
I felt helpless, painful, sad and miserable. I couldn’t bring myself to accept the retribution of the bad karma.
I was only 34 then, my children were still young. I was in tears every day when I hugged my children. What should I do? I felt as if I had plunged into an abyss of agony and despair. I sought medical help hoping that I could live longer.
The doctor advised me to go through two courses of chemotherapy to kill the cancerous cells prior to a surgery. The pain of having to go through chemotherapy made me think of taking my own life. It was the Guan Yin Bodhisattva who had the compassion on this sinful child of Hers.
By chance, I came across a Buddhism sharing by a fellow practitioner Huan An Xu in her WeChat group. I was touched as I felt as if I had found light at the end of the tunnel. Although she was a stranger to me, she was so enthusiastic and compassionate in helping me by sending me the Buddhist scriptures and Little Houses. With great patience, she provided me with guidance on ways to perform recitation of the Buddhist scriptures and Little Houses to repay my karmic debts. From then onwards, I started to perform recitation – which marked an unexpected journey that gave me a new lease of life. I saw the hope of life and in my heart, I strongly believe that Guan Yin Bodhisattva would save me!
At that time, I made the following great vows:
1, To become a vegetarian for the rest of my life.
2, To abstain from killing.
3, To release 10,000 fish in captivity.
4, To recite 300 Little Houses for my aborted child.
5, To refrain from sexual misconduct.
6, To give a testimony of my experience upon recovery.
During the second chemotherapy, I hardly felt any pain at all. This gave me the encouragement to continue with my daily recitation and the recitation of Little Houses. I felt like a normal person. I dreamt about Guan Yin Bodhisattva treating me and removing my uterus! Thank you to our Heavenly Mother, Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
I was due for an operation in November 2017, but the doctor said one of the results was bad and quickly instructed me to seek further examination in the provincial hospital. During my few days stay in the provincial hospital, I prayed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva for a positive examination outcome. I vowed that I would perform life liberation twice a month, propagate Buddhism and perform more meritorious acts. Guan Yin Bodhisattva was indeed merciful, as my medical report turned out to be very good. As such, I decided to return to my hometown for surgery.
When I entered the operating room, I kept reciting the Holy Name of Guan Yin Bodhisattva until I lost consciousness due to the effect of anesthesia. Post surgery, the surgeon told me that I suffered from minimal bleeding during the operation. Instead of the typical five to six hours of operation, my surgery was completed in three hours. Even the doctor found it unbelievable. This reaffirmed my determination and confidence in practising Buddhism. Only Guan Yin Bodhisattva was able to save me from the sea of suffering. Thank you, Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
In December 2017, some local Guan Yin Citta practitioners helped me to set up an altar. The night before the special occasion, I dreamt that a big Buddha appeared in front of me and said, “You have to practise Buddhism diligently, if not, you will descend to a lower realm.” I got up from my dream, feeling fearful. The next day, after setting up the altar, the fellow practitioners told me that the Buddha was trying to guide me. I knew that I have to be steadfast in my Buddhism practice as a way of expressing my gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Master Lu. I am resolved to stay true in my Buddhism practice and never backslide. I will help more sentient beings to practise Buddhism to repay the kindness of the Buddha!
I persisted in performing recitation of scriptures, Little Houses, life liberation, repaying my karmic debts and reading Buddhism in Plain Terms. Glad to say, I managed to complete 600 Little Houses in six months. When I returned to the hospital for an examination, the doctor informed me that the cancer cells had disappeared and all the health indicators had normalised, suggesting that I had fully recovered. For that, I did not need to undergo further examination! Overwhelmed by joy, tears rolled down my cheeks. I knew that Guan Yin Bodhisattva had saved me and given me a new lease of life! No words could describe how grateful I was to my saviour, Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
There was a period of time, a sense of unease and boredom washed over me whenever I performed my recitation. Soon after, I dreamt of Master Lu’s Dharma body sitting on a chair with Buddhism in Plain Terms on his laps. Master Lu told me: “You should spend more time reading Buddhism in Plain Terms”. My gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu for the reminder!
In May 2018, I dreamt about Master Lu in a Dharma convention. He was dressed in white and his tall dharma body was sitting on top of the mountain. When it was my turn for totem reading, Master Lu smiled at me without saying anything, then he waved his hand. A golden circle appeared and he placed it into my body. When I woke up, I knew that Master Lu had blessed me! My deepest gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu!
In July 2019, I went for a medical check-up. My tumour marker test for cancer showed some abnormality. I quickly confessed and repented to Guan Yin Bodhisattva. I regretted that although I had recovered for two years, I had yet to share my testimony as promised. I failed to honour my vow. I quickly made a vow again to release 300 fish, 49 turtles, follow the footsteps of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, and attend Master Lu’s Dharma Talk in Malaysia this year; I would share my testimony, work as a volunteer to atone for my sins. I will introduce Buddhism to more people and spread the seeds of Buddhism wherever I go. I prayed to Guan Yin Bodhisattva to bless me with a favourable medical result! In the end, the results showed that everything was normal.
Deepest gratitude to the Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva who has once again helped me in my life. Deepest gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu. Thank you for bringing such marvellous dharma practice to the human world and the deep care that you have shown towards us – constantly worrying that suffering children of yours would not cultivate well and get lost in the world of Samsara.
Master Lu, you can be rest assured that I will honour you and revere your teachings. I will follow your footsteps until I arrive at the other shore of liberation and enlightenment. I will never regress. I vow to attain enlightenment in this lifetime!
