FAITH IN BUDDHISM DRIVEN BY ONE’S WISH

Master Jun Hong Lu: A large number of sentient beings wish for peace and prosperity, hence their belief in Buddhism.  They assume their faith in Buddha is deep, but in reality,  hovers around  a superficial level, as they are unable to relinquish their earthly comforts and good fortune.

In reality, everything in this world is like a cloud passing in the sky.  We are besotted with the enjoyment of material comforts, and therefore, are not willing to relinquish them.  Nor are we able to reflect on the impermanence of time.  For instance, consider the example of a person who owns a house, but due to the inherent financial pressures created by home ownership, has to work extremely hard to service its associated loan, and ultimately completely exhausts themselves.

We cannot bring along our wealth with us when we pass on from this world.  Our spiritual life is the result of our cultivation and it is truly our ‘only life’ that can allow us to transcend the six realms of samsara.
