LITTLE HOUSE WITHOUT THE NAME OF THE RECITER WILL BE EASILY “TAKEN AWAY” BY SPIRITS; NOT THE CASE WITH DAILY RECITATION OF BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES

Caller: You mentioned in Buddhism: Your Questions Answered, “Though many people nowadays recite sutras/mantras for the purpose of fulfilling their own wishes, we should gradually aim to make no request ultimately”.  Correspondingly, I recently notice there are many Buddhist friends who do not make any prayer requests during their daily recitation. May I ask, when we recite the Heart Sutra and the Amitabha Pure Land Rebirth Mantra, without making any prayer requests, will the Buddhist scriptures be more prone to being “taken away” by spirits?

Master Jun Hong Lu: No, it won’t.  As long as the recitation is part of your daily recitation, it will not be “taken away”.  However, if you are performing recitation of Little Houses without having the name of reciter on it, it will be a totally different scenario.
