A VOW WAS MADE EARLIER TO OFFER A CERTAIN NUMBER OF LITTLE HOUSES TO SOMEONE BEFORE DEATH. CAN WE DELAY DELIVERING THESE LITTLE HOUSES AFTER ONE’S PASSING?

Caller: Master Lu, a Buddhist practitioner’s family member has passed away. When the deceased was alive, the Buddhist practitioner made a vow to offer a certain number of Little Houses to the deceased’s karmic creditors but didn’t fulfil it.  Because he had to make necessary funeral arrangements, he was lagging badly behind in his own daily recitations. Can he pray to Bodhisattva for extension of time to complete the remaining Little Houses he had vowed?

Master Jun Hong Lu:  Yes, he can. But don’t make excuses and must have acceptable reasons.

Caller: I understand now. However, the vow of offering Little Houses would need to be fulfilled eventually, wouldn’t it?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, that is correct.
