LET GO OF THE AFFECTION OF THE ILLUSORY WORLD OF THE MORTALS AND BE AWAKENED TO THAT OF THE BUDDHA

Master Jun Hong Lu: Being kind to others is being kind to yourself. Do so without expecting anything in return. Learn to treat others well as those who do so are extremely wise.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival coming up, it is pretty common to give others a box of mooncakes. Yet, many people harbour that hope of having their favour reciprocated. Take for instance, aren’t you making yourself miserable if you were to give someone only four mooncakes and yet expect eight in return? As such, when you give, do not expect anything in return. If you go all out to help others, deep down, they will surely be grateful to you.

Remember, some of these people may not be able to pay you in kind right away, but the day when they become successful, they will surely not forget about you. Hence, the less we expect something in return, the greater the reward. As the dharma world puts it, “Ask not about the harvest but ask about the hard work”.
