SHOULD WE SAY SEPARATE PRAYERS TO NANJING BODHISATTVA, TAI SUI BODHISATTVA AND GUAN DI BODHISATTVA?
Caller: Master, Buddhist practitioners of Guan Yin Citta would generally pray to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, Nanjing Bodhisattva, Tai Sui Bodhisattva and Guan Di Bodhisattva at home. Is there a better way for us to say our prayers and connect to these four Bodhisattvas, respectively?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It suffices to perform prostration to all of Them and always confide in Guan Yin Bodhisattva what’s in your mind. There isn’t a need to confide in each of these Bodhisattvas because They will know the moment you express to Guan Yin Bodhisattva. That said, it is still alright to confide in other Bodhisattvas if you choose to do so.
What you can do is, after putting forth your prayer request to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, you can say the following prayer request to Nanjing Bodhisattva:
“May Nanjing Bodhisattva show compassion and help me overcome all afflictions in this human world.”
When praying to Tai Sui Bodhisattva, the primary prayer request should be: “May Tai Sui Bodhisattva help me eliminate my karmic obstacles so that I can strictly adhere to the Buddhist precepts.”
If Tai Sui Bodhisattva is always there helping you observe the Buddhist precepts, chances are you are able to abstain yourself from committing any evil deeds by adhering to the precepts.
As for Nanjing Bodhisattva, if you always have Him on your mind, you will have the impression that all of your undertakings become more smooth sailing. This is particularly true when it comes to interpersonal relationships because Nanjing Bodhisattva will be there to give you guidance. This is because Nanjing Bodhisattva is taking the helm of the highest spiritual position in heaven that is tasked to regulate inter-religious harmony.
You can pray to Guan Di Bodhisattva to bless you with greater spiritual energy so that you can be shielded and be as indestructible as a diamond. With this, you can dispel the dark energy so that demons can’t get near you. Many people have such protection. This prayer request can also be used for Guan Di Bodhisattva, Zhou Cang Bodhisattva and Guan Ping Bodhisattva.
Caller: I see.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Typically, you do not need to express your specific wishes to each of these three Bodhisattvas. The moment you articulate your wishes to Guan Yin Bodhisattva, the rest of Them will know about them. Bodhisattvas have a very high state of mind; They will never behave like the humans, jostling with each other for reputation and self-benefits; Bodhisattvas do not have such a mentality.
