SCRIPTURES MAY BE PLACED ON THE PRAYING MAT ON THE SPOT WHERE YOUR FOREHEAD MAKES CONTACT WITH DURING PROSTRATION; DO NOT SIT ON PRAYING MAT
Caller: Are we allowed to place scriptures on the praying mat?
Master Jun Hong Lu: You may do so, as that is where our forehead touches during prostration. That is why praying mat is not to be sat on. There are some places where praying mat are placed on a hard wooden bench. In some instances, some will sit on the spot where others perform prostration. Do you know that anything below the navel on a human body is considered as – what we called the three lower realms which is considered filthy. Having said so, do you think you should sit on the praying mat? How can we place our buttocks on the front part of the cushion? When you are doing prostration, you may place the scriptures on the front part of the praying mat, as the front part is where your forehead makes contact with. Do you understand?
