HANDLING OF CLEANING CLOTH FOR BUDDHIST ALTAR

Question:  Is it proper for us to continue using the cloth used for cleaning fruits to be offered on the altar if it accidentally drops on the floor?

Answer:  If the floor is very dirty, do not use it anymore; otherwise, you may wash it before using it again.  But, it is still best not to use it anymore.  After all, once it is dropped, it is considered dirty.  It is best to use a new clean cloth to clean the fruits offered to Bodhisattva.

Question:  Can we use the old cloth to wipe the table?

Answer:  If the cloth was previously used for cleaning fruits, you might use it to wipe the table; but avoid doing so if it was previously used for cleaning images of Buddhas.
