Deepest gratitude to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva
Deepest gratitude to All Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and Dharma Protectors
Deepest gratitude to Master Lu
Deepest gratitude to all
I would like to begin my sharing on how the Three Golden Buddhist Practices and the compassionate blessing and protection of Guan Yin Bodhisattva enabled my son who was from a neighbourhood primary school to enter the secondary school of his dreams, Hwa Chong Institution (HCI).
My son came to Singapore a few years ago from China and started his studies in a neighbourhood school as a Primary 2 student. As a child studying in a completely Chinese learning environment, the sudden transition to a completely English learning environment left him at a loss for almost half a year. He could not understand lesson content and felt very stressed.
Hence, we had no choice but to send him for tuition.
In 2018, my son sat for the Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE). We had high hopes for him, and this was exacerbated by how the children of my wife’s colleagues and friends were top students who entered top schools.
Hence, we hoped with greater fervence that our son would be able to enter HCI or Raffles Institution (RI). Despite understanding Buddhist teachings that we should accord with conditions, I could not help but pray to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva regarding this matter.
Before praying to Bodhisattva, I had a chat with my son and asked him to approximate his score based on the preliminary exams. He replied with a guess of 250. However, the cut off point for both HCI and RI has always been around 258 in recent years.
At that time, there was only 3-4 months to the PSLE. Due to some limitations, I was only able to fork out time at night to perform recitation for my son. I would kneel before the Buddhist altar to pray for Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s blessing and protection to enable my son to achieve the best results possible and enter his dream school. Each day, I would recite 7 times of the Heart Sutra and 27 times of the Cundi Dharani.
I also asked Buddhist friends in China to liberate fish facing imminent slaughter on the 1st and 15th day of the lunar month for my son. Additionally, I vowed to offer 15 Little Houses on my son’s behalf to his karmic creditors and finished offering the Little Houses a week or two before the release of results. During his exams, I also recited the Heart Sutra and Cundi Dharani.
Unexpectedly, on the day of results release we found that my son got an A for all subjects, even for his worst subject, English. Here is his report slip.
He even was amongst the top 5 scorers in his school with a score of 257 + 2 (bonus points from Higher Chinese). Interestingly, HCI’s cut-off this year was exactly 259, which happened to be my son’s score.
Deepest gratitude to Guan Yin Bodhisattva! On the morning of December 19 after my daily recitation, I received a message from the Ministry of Education stating that my son got accepted by HCI! This is truly because of Bodhisattva’s blessing!
Master Lu advocates for us to make the right prayer requests. These include prayers for good health, academic improvement, dispelling calamities, and propagating Buddhism to all with affinity. Indeed, Guan Yin Bodhisattva answers all prayers but we should never ask for the fame and favour of the human realm as these things are only temporary.
To me, encountering Guan Yin Citta is the most blissful thing I could ever ask for as Guan Yin Bodhisattva is constantly caring and protecting her children like me and my family and always having the best arrangements for us. Once again, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva!
When I first encountered Guan Yin Citta in 2016, I kept dreaming about my late grandfather. This made me understand that death is not the end of our life as our souls are eternal. Only through diligent spiritual cultivation in the human realm can we hope to transcend to a higher spiritual realm. This is why I persist in reciting Little Houses to repay karmic debts and help the deceased to ascend to a higher spiritual realm.
When I first began performing recitation, I would often doze off. However, Master Lu said that we must persist in recitation regardless of how busy we are and we should at least recite the Great Compassion Mantra and the Heart Sutra. Hence, wherever I am, I will always persist in daily recitation.
Even when I went on a 3-day cruise with my family in December 2017, I never stopped performing recitation. As a result of my persistence, I felt that my spiritual prowess had increased in 2018. The effects of offering Little Houses had also become increasingly apparent and I felt more dharma joy from spiritual cultivation.
During the Singapore Dharma Convention in May 2018, a Singaporean Buddhist friend shared that reciting the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance in the Guan Yin Hall allows one to eliminate karmic obstacles very quickly. As such, I tried to recite it by kneeling in front of my altar at home.
When I first began, I felt an intense ache all over my body and a large beads of sweat started forming on my forehead, dripping onto the prayer mat. This phenomenon repeated for many days. The blessing from Buddhas and Bodhisattva is indeed immense, deepest gratitude to the Buddhist friend for sharing his experience!
On the Amitabha Buddha’s birthday on 23 December 2018, we set up a new Buddhist altar at home, where we enshrined the Guan Yin Bodhisattva of Oriental Radio. That night I dreamed of Master Lu. He looked exceptionally kind. He came up to me and with all smiles, he put his hands on my body as if treating me. My body felt really warm the following morning.
This was the first time I dreamed of Master Lu, talked to him in such close proximity and he even helped treat my illness!
One night of March 2019, I was feeling very tired as I had been overworked continuously for the past few days. I remembered I have yet to complete the recitation of my daily homework and offer incense to Bodhisattva.
Hence, I pushed myself to offer the incense. Out of a sudden, a surge of warmth enveloped my head and neck. Immediately, I felt a gush of vitality in me and my recitation became powerful. Deepest gratitude the Greatly Merciful, Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva for the blessings.
At times, I feel that to practise Buddhism is not easy; when others are having a good time partying, eating and drinking and singing in karaoke, we are supposed to perform recitation of Buddhist scriptures, read Master Lu’s book <Buddhism in Plain Terms> and listen to Master Lu’s discourse.
At work and in business, I no longer hate my debtors. In fact, I pity them and I feel that I am repaying my karmic debts with them. I empathize with them especially for the fact that they did not have the opportunity to practise spiritual cultivation.
Many opportunities came knocking on my door but now I have learned to accord to conditions. Unlike before where I used to fight for a lot of things in life, now I no longer do so. I believe as long as I have put in my best effort, I will let nature takes its course after which as the things in life that we fight for may well not belong to us and hence it will not be long-lasting.
We only own what we gain from spiritual cultivation. Therefore, we should focus on accumulating more meritorious blessings, and elevate our state of mind. These are the real transformations that Buddhism had brought upon my family. I hope all of you will soon be able to feel the joy of spiritual cultivation and to benefit from the practice.
Thank you everyone.
Should my sharing today is improper in any way, I seek the forgiveness of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and from everyone.
