Is there any other ways to improve such situation apart from reciting Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots (Jie Jie Zhou)?

For poor external environment, besides reciting Mantra to Untie Karmic Knots you can also recite Heart Sutra (Xin Jing) and Jvala Mahaugra Dharani (Xiao Zai Ji Xiang Shen Zhou). In fact, another feature of Jvala Mahaugra Dharani is to prevent calamities, so as to improve your environment and help you achieve a smooth sailing life.
