HOW DOES BEING GENEROUS DIFFER FROM THE PRACTICE OF GIVING?

Caller: What is the difference between being generous and the Practice of Giving?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Of course there is a difference between the two. Generosity is a character trait. What about the Practice of Giving? Through learning Buddhism, we acquire the ability to be compassionate, kind and charitable which evokes a sense of sympathy for others. With that, we come to understand what it means to be altruistic. This form of giving has the underlying element of compassion, and hence, it is termed the “Practice of Giving”.
