Activation of Individual Karmic Obstacles: Does it lead to the eruption of shared karma within the family?
Question: Does it lead to the eruption of shared karma within the family when an individual’s negative karma is being triggered? If someone in the family diligently eliminates his negative karmic debts, will it also clear some of the negative karma within other family members?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, it will. When a person’s negative karma erupts, it will certainly cause a common reaction within their family members. Let me cite you a simple example; if a child falls sick, the father will have to take leaves and the mother has to tend to the child. The father will also have to pay for the medical bills. Is this not affecting the whole family? When any one of the family members is seriously ill, the whole family will be unlucky. This is known as an individual’s negative karma being integrated into a common pool within a family, isn’t it? Let there be no outbreak of karmic emergence to any one family member, in this way, the whole family is safe and sound. Therefore, we have to understand that a person who has performed many good deeds will benefit the people around him. As the Chinese saying goes: “A person’s promotion will enable those around him to ride on his coattails”. In the same way, if one person practises the Dharma, his whole family will ascend to heaven.
