WHAT IS THE NOTION OF FORM?

Master Jun Hong Lu: As Buddhists, we should not be attached to form. In fact, we should rid ourselves the notion of form.

What is the notion of form?
When you are driven by a specific motive in doing something, this is what it means by “being attached to the notion of form”.

Instead, we should practise compassion towards all beings recognise that all are connected and help others unconditionally – “I am least concerned about my own interest, as long as what I do is able to help sentient beings”.

We should not hold on to any thoughts on the deeds that we have done, nor should we be attached to any notion of form. Do not think, “Hey, I got to achieve this today!”

Instead, we should just accord with conditions and take comfort when we learn that others are doing better than us. This is just like how a mother would always wish for her child to live a better life than her. The same goes with a father.

Unfortunately, for us, we always think, “I want to eat better than him”, “I want to have a better life than him, I want to dress better than him”. Why so? These are all selfish motives and they are referred to as being “attached to the perception of form”.
