TRANSFORMING NEGATIVE AFFINITY WITH A KIND HEART
Master Jun Hong Lu:
The Buddha once said,
“Even if it’s for a thousand kalpas,
the deeds we commit would never fade,
Comes the day we meet with our fate,
suffering is certain as karma awaits”.
When interacting with our friends, we must be mindful of our words – it is better to squash enmity than to perpetuate it. We must understand how karma functions. In this lifetime, no matter how someone treats us, it’s a result of either positive or negative affinities established in our previous lives.
From now on, we must endeavour to transform our negative karmic relationships with our kindness. When we encounter animals with a bad smell or strong odour, we should show them compassion and understanding. Especially during life liberation, we must remember to show compassion. Fish may have a distinct odour but we should still show them mercy. The act of life liberation nurtures compassion within us, bestowing upon us calmness and longevity for lifetimes to come and protecting us from the snares of revenge and hatred. In modern times, many of us have already accumulated grievances with numerous individuals. Thus, it is time for us to adopt vegetarianism, ensuring that we do not further antagonise animals. This is wisdom, a true demonstration of compassion.
