THE RIGHT VIEW
Master Jun Hong Lu: We need to have the Right View to properly see through all the wrong views and thoughts, our vexations and ignorance.
To give a simple example, today, you are told your neighbour is spreading a rumour about your family. Upon hearing it, you immediately give rise to the wrong view and you become unhappy. How should you derive the Right View from this?
First of all, you need to think, “My neighbour has born no grudges against me, why would he spread rumours about me?”
Secondly, “Could it be misheard by someone”
Thirdly, “Even if he did spread rumours about me, probably it was because I have done something wrong. All the more I shouldn’t hold grudges against him.”
This is how you give rise to the Right View.
On the contrary, if the minute you hear someone say something bad about you, it is wrong if you start a fight with them immediately; this is called ‘evil bewilderment’. Hence, it is very important that you listen to what others tell you with a righteous mind. Do not be obsessed or give rise to instant flare-ups. Otherwise, you are someone who is bewildered by evil.
Don’t blindly believe in the words said by your husband, wife or child only because of who they are to you.
The attachment to the notion of self or of others leads us to make a lot of mistakes in life.
In reality, one can hardly be fooled by others, they are deceived by themselves!
Your wrong understanding of things results in the wrong point of view which leads you to do the wrong things. Don’t you think you are harming yourself?
