Caller: Master, how does impermanence (non-permanence) come about?
Master Jun Hong Lu: ‘Non’ (无) means ‘nothingness’; ‘Permanence’ (常) means long-lasting. Hence, putting them together, ‘impermanence’ means, it appears that there is something and then there is nothing – now you have it, then you don’t. Is this simple enough for your understanding?
Caller: Yes, I guess I think too much.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, when you think too much that’s called maniac. That’s what happens when you overthink. But, if you don’t think about anything at all, that’s called foolishness. Therefore, you have to be in the middle, that’s called ‘normal’.
Caller: Alright, thank you Master.
