A Heart Filled With Vanity

A HEART FILLED WITH VANITY

Master Jun Hong Lu: Many people have asked Master Lu, “Master, why do we have a heart filled with vanity?  The Master tells them that vanity surfaces when you are too conscious about yourself and tell yourself, “I have lost face”, “I am ashamed”, “Where do I place my face?”, “I, I, I….” so the vain heart surfaced.  When you are aware that “no one is perfect”, I am just like the rest of you, I am not special and I am just like everyone else practising Buddhism.  What is so special about me?  What do I have that can be better than other people? At this point in time, you have lowered your self-centeredness and your vain heart will not exist.
