Deepest Gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu!
Greetings to everyone, I am Fellow Practitioner Yang from Myanmar.
On 28th March this year, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar. That day, I was on duty at the Guan Yin Hall, having a meal with a few fellow practitioners. Suddenly, the ground and the building began to shake violently. Before we could even react, countless bricks started falling from the ceiling, hitting the ground with a loud crashing sound. Panicked, we quickly took shelter under the tables. In that critical moment, there was truly no time to recite even a single verse of the sutra. All we could do was call out the Sacred Name of Guan Yin Bodhisattva, repeatedly chanting “Guan Yin Bodhisattva, save us!“
The chairs and utensils in the Guan Yin Hall were all shattered, and huge cracks appeared on the walls. However, the entire hall did not collapse. We are truly grateful for Bodhisattva’s protection!
After what felt like an eternity of 30-40 seconds, the earthquake finally stopped. We quickly ran out to the roadside. One fellow practitioner’s child had escaped even earlier. She later said she had been napping on a long bench in the hall when Guan Yin Bodhisattva urgently tapped her head, saying, “Wake up! Wake up!” She woke up immediately and ran out and although the spot where she had been sleeping was soon buried under a heap of bricks, she was unharmed. Thanks to Bodhisattva’s warning that she woke up in time. Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassion is truly boundless!
After the earthquake, we didn’t dare to enter the hall immediately due to the risk of aftershocks. 10 minutes later, a 6-plus magnitude aftershock struck, lasting around 30 seconds. Everyone was trembling with fear. Only after the aftershock had passed for half an hour did we muster the courage to enter the hall and assess the damage. We found that the porcelain statues of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and Guan Di Bodhisattva had fallen off the altar and were damaged. Later, after listening to Master Lu’s teachings, we understood that the damage to the Bodhisattva’s statues was actually a manifestation of the Bodhisattva taking the suffering upon Themself to protect us.
We are deeply grateful for the compassion and blessings of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and all the Buddhas. Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is truly efficacious!
On my way home, I saw many houses that had collapsed, and the scene was one of devastation. Only then did I realize how severe the earthquake was. However, when I arrived home, I found that our house, although slightly cracked, had not collapsed. In the days that followed, I asked many fellow practitioners and discovered that those who practiced the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door had similar experiences – their homes had not collapsed, only sustaining minor damage. This was a 7.9-magnitude earthquake! Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassion shielded us from so much suffering and created a miracle!
My two children were also blessed by Guan Yin Bodhisattva. One child was with the nanny at home and safely ran out during the earthquake. The other child was supposed to watch a movie, but he suddenly felt hungry and left the cinema just before the earthquake struck. The cinema caught fire during the earthquake, and those trapped inside were in a desperate situation. I couldn’t bear to think about what would have happened to my child if not for Bodhisattva’s protection. We are truly grateful for Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s blessings!
The earthquake brought tremendous suffering to the people of Myanmar, with countless individuals losing loved ones and homes. Many houses collapsed, leaving people homeless and forced to live on the streets. Others had damaged homes that could collapse at any moment, making it impossible for them to enter their own houses. Everyone was on edge, anxious, and fearful, unsure of what to do next. With the constant threat of aftershocks, the people of the entire city slept on the streets, fearing they wouldn’t have time to escape if another earthquake occurred. Many didn’t even have time to grab essential items like clothes, food, or money, leaving them with nothing but ruins. Communication was also cut off, with no signal or network, making it impossible to reach loved ones.
The aftermath of the earthquake was just as challenging, with many people struggling to find food even a month later. Even with money, most shops and restaurants were closed due to their own losses. Fortunately, some temples and charity groups provided food to help survivors through the most difficult days. Despite the difficulties, we are grateful that Guan Yin Bodhisattva protected our fellow practitioners who follow the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door, keeping them safe and preserving our homes. We are already incredibly fortunate compared to those who lost their lives and everything in the earthquake.
Seeing such suffering, I believe the Bodhisattva must also be weeping too. Yet Collective Karma is hard to defy, neither can Bodhisattva intervene with the Law of Karma. Nevertheless, Guan Yin Bodhisattva protected our fellow practitioners of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door in Myanmar, allowing us to safely navigate this calamity and preserve our homes. We are already tens of thousands of times more fortunate than the countless people who lost their lives and all their possessions in the earthquake. In the face of natural disasters, humans are truly vulnerable and powerless. In this Age of Dharma-Decline, it’s essential to cultivate our spiritual practice and rely on Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s protection to navigate such challenges.
Myanmar has been in civil war in recent years, causing countless tragedies — economic collapse, shortages of goods, skyrocketing prices, road closures, and broken bridges. Essential supplies are hard to transport, and domestic bus fares are as high as international flight tickets. Poverty and disaster victims are increasing. Because of the economic crisis, robbery and theft have become common, causing widespread fear.
Those living in dangerous areas face constant threats from gunfire, bombs, and death. Just a few months ago, a fellow practitioner was offering incense at home when a bomb dropped from a plane landed at her doorstep. Miraculously, it did not explode—it simply lodged deeply in the ground. Normally, such bombs never fail to detonate. This was a miracle, surely it was Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s protection.
After the earthquake, many of our fellow practitioners were busy repairing their homes, settling their families, and worrying about financial matters. It was hard to find peace of mind for scriptures recitations, managing to complete our daily homework is really a challenge. Without stable living conditions, it is hard to devote full energy to practice Buddhism. We truly envy our fellow practitioners in Singapore who live in a safe and peaceful environment, free from natural disasters and wars, and can cultivate their minds and practise Buddhism in a serene setting.
For those in Singapore, war, hunger, and earthquakes may seem like distant concepts only seen on TV. You are so blessed to have such a solemn Guan Yin Hall where you can recite scriptures in peace every day, enjoy air-conditioning, and access to free vegetarian meals. This environment—where you need not worry about anything—is a dream come true for us.
Myanmar is still in civil war; the airport could be closed at any time. Every time we attend Dharma propagation events, we risk not being able to return home. Despite the risks and challenges, we make every effort to come to Singapore’s new Guan Yin Hall to pay homage to the Bodhisattvas and attend the annual Dharma propagation event, sharing in the joy of the Dharma. We feel close to Guan Yin Bodhisattva and the peaceful atmosphere of the Guan Yin Hall brings us peace and purification. We truly don’t want to leave and wish we could have such an environment for daily cultivation.
I am deeply grateful for Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s compassion, always protecting us suffering practitioners in Myanmar. Without the Bodhisattva, I don’t know where we would be today. We can only repay Guan Yin Bodhisattva’s grace by diligently cultivating throughout our lives. I urge all Singaporean practitioners to cherish your beautiful life and the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. Never give up this precious Dharma Door because of small dissatisfactions in life. The Bodhisattva is always by our side—having a healthy body and living in peace today is already the Bodhisattva’s blessing! We practitioners in Myanmar who survived the disaster have all witnessed the Bodhisattva’s greatness and responsiveness. The Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door is truly the best way to change one’s destiny in this Dharma-Decline Age!
The experience of the earthquake and other disasters has shown us the greatness of Guan Yin Bodhisattva and the effectiveness of the Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door. This spiritual practice is the best way to change our fate in this Age of Dharma-Decline!
I have come to the end of my sharing. If my sharing is improper in any way. I would like to seek forgiveness from Guan Yin Bodhisattva. Thank you all for listening!
