Praying Procedure (Updated on 20 Nov 2021)

  1. Light the incense stick(s), then kneel before the altar.

For Buddhist Friends with no altar at home, you may offer Heart Incense: Demo Video in Performing Heart Incense

 

  1. Put your palms together and make prostrations in front of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

Note: For Buddhist Friends with no altar at home, do not kneel down physically.

 

  1. State the following:
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Shakyamuni Buddha (repeat 3 times and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva Mo He Sa (repeat 3 times and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Nanjing Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Tai Sui Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Guan Di Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Zhou Tsang Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Guan Ping Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu (and then bow 3 times).

 

  1. Recite the Great Compassion Mantra (Da Bei Zhou) once, followed by the Heart Sutra (Xin Jing) once.

 

  1. Pray or make vows according to your situation.
  • When making vows: I, [your full name], make a vow to the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva to… (e.g. be a full vegetarian, etc.)
  • When saying prayers: “May the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva (Mo He Sa) protect and bless me, [your full name], grant me good health, safety and good fortune, etc.” (It is recommended that you make no more than three wishes.)

 

  1. Put your palms together and make prostrations in front of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. State the following:
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Shakyamuni Buddha (repeat 3 times and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo the Greatly Merciful and Greatly Compassionate Guan Yin Bodhisattva Mo He Sa (repeat 3 times and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Nanjing Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Tai Sui Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Guan Di Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Zhou Tsang Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Namo Guan Ping Bodhisattva (and then bow 3 times);
  • Deepest Gratitude to Master Jun Hong Lu (and then bow 3 times).

 

  1. Recite Qi Fo Mie Zui Zhen Yan 7 times.

 

  1. Stand up and bow 1 or 3 times with palms together. Take one step back. You may leave or proceed with your recitation of Buddhist scriptures.
