Journey to Heaven and the Underworld: The King of Hell Explains the Significance of Being a Vegetarian, Performing Life Liberations and Making and Fulfilling One’s Vow

20 November 2018

Question:

On 20 November 2018, I was whisked off by a golden light to the Underworld to meet with the King of Hell. When I arrived, I saw The King of Hell reading a scroll that was glowing. I paid my respect to him and stood to the side, waiting for his instructions. After he finished reading, the King said to me, “This is a decree from the Heavenly court. It instructed me to reveal a few things about the Underworld to the public. Due to the strict regulations in the Underworld, were it not for the decree, the affairs of the Underworld should not be made public to the beings in the realm of living.”

“I will first talk about those Buddhists who have vowed to be a permanent vegetarian for the rest of their life. If they break their vow and eat meat again, then that’s considered a great false speech by the Heaven and Earth. In the Underworld, it will be recorded as a serious offence since they made a vow in front of the Buddha but failed to fulfil it. Dharma protectors treat this as a serious matter.

“In fact, if an evil person can vow to be a vegetarian and perform life liberations (the Underworld record this as a great benevolent deed), the Heaven and the Underworld will treat that person as a benevolent person, and help eliminate a lot of negative karma, but not all of it. This person will still be under review and see if they will fulfil their vow after their lifespan has been extended, also if they truly have refrained from evil and cultivate their kindness. Many Dharma protectors of Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door will also check if you Buddhist practitioners truly fulfil your vow.”

“Based on the vows you Buddhists have made and the good deeds that you have promised before the Buddha, the Underworld will gradually cross out the unwholesome deeds that you did in the past from your records. But most importantly, it relies on whether you have truly repented and sincerely want to be a kind-hearted person. That’s why a person must be cautious when making a vow in front of the Buddha. It is not a joking matter. We have already received a decree from heaven that anybody who breaks their vow will be punished. The good will be rewarded, and the evil will be punished, it’s only a matter of time. Every religious practice teaches people to do good and refrain from evil, which is to eliminate your evil thoughts and evil minds with your acts of kindness. Performing life liberations and adopting a vegetarian diet is recorded as benevolent deeds in the Underworld, while killing is recorded as a great offence.

“When you return to the human world, please write down everything I said on my behalf and hand it to your Master. Do good and perform acts of kindness, kid!”

May the Master verify the above account of my visit. My deepest gratitude to the Master.

Master Jun Hong Lu’s reply:

No wonder many of our fellow Buddhists who practise Guan Yin Citta Dharma Door have all fallen critically ill when they broke their vows of being a vegetarian. I also found it strange. When I asked these patients whether they have broken their vows of being a vegetarian and they said yes. Afterwards, their cancer recurred, and they soon passed away.
