THE SIGNIFICANCE OF “HEIGHT ASCENDING” DURING THE CHONG YANG FESTIVAL
Caller: Master, why must we ascend to higher places during the Chong Yang Festival? What is the significance of “height ascending”?
Master Jun Hong Lu: There are two meanings to it. The first one being when you do so, it helps elevate your state of mind during this period.
This is because during a solar term like the Chong Yang Festival, many of the Bodhisattvas from heaven or the underworld will visit the human realm. Hence, if you ascend to a higher ground, you are likely to see these Bodhisattvas. As I’ve mentioned before, it is particularly efficacious to perform recitation during a flight, simply because the plane has ascended to a very high altitude.
If you recite during this time, you are able to connect with the energy field of the Bodhisattvas, making your recitation particularly efficacious and the quality of Little Houses will be extremely good too.
Secondly, it’s generally a good thing if you are able to ascend or climb up. If you are able to ascend during the Chong Yang Festival, it is synonymous to the Chinese idiom that says, “Sesame plant grows taller with every bloom”, which brings us hope that on this special day, the course of our destiny will be transformed, and things will become increasingly favourable for us.
This is just like how you would greet others during Chinese New Year by saying, “Hey, I wish you prosperity and good fortune, may the New Year bring greater auspiciousness!”. The concept is the same.
