SHOULD ONE DECIDE TO CONTINUE RECITATION AFTER OFFERING THE FIRST INCENSE ON BUDDHAS’ BIRTHDAYS, CONTINUOUS OFFERING OF INCENSE IS NECESSARY TO AVOID ATTRACTING FOREIGN SPIRITS
Question: On several occasions after offering the First Incense on Bodhisattvas’ Birthdays or Enlightenment days etc., I continued to recite the Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance (LIFO) throughout the night without offering any subsequent incense. For some reason, the following weeks, my sleep would be badly compromised and I seem to suffer from acute insomnia. May I ask if this is because I have attracted some foreign spirits, due to the fact that I was reciting the LIFO throughout the night without offering any subsequent incense? In such a situation, what should I do?
Answer: It is highly possible. If you plan to recite throughout the night, it is necessary for you to continue to offer incense, otherwise, you may attract foreign spirits. In this case where you suffer from sleep disorder, it is only a temporary phenomena. Please recite more Little Houses.
(Note from the Secretariat: Based on Master’s latest discourse, it is best to avoid recitation past 2am, except on the first day of Chinese New Year.)
