Caller: Master, the Ullambana Festival is fast approaching, generally how many Little Houses should a diligent Buddhist practitioner commit to offering to his karmic creditors? Please advise, Master.
Master Jun Hong Lu: It is best to have a target in mind. This is to say you commit yourself to offering a specific number of Little Houses to an ancestor that you have in mind. This works better.
Otherwise, if you tell yourself, “I’m going to offer Little Houses to my forefathers”, you will never be able to accomplish it in this lifetime simply because you do not know how many are needed. Do you understand?
Caller: I do. Other than Little Houses for our ancestors, how many, in general, should we offer to our karmic creditors?
Master Jun Hong Lu: For your own karmic creditors, the most that you can offer is 49 Little Houses.
