CAN WE OFFER FLOWERS AND ALCOHOLIC DRINKS WHEN PAYING RESPECT TO THE DECEASED?
Caller: When paying respect to the deceased at their grave, can we offer flowers and alcoholic drinks?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It is not recommended to do so if you feel that the deceased has ascended to heaven. If you are thinking of offering Little Houses to help the deceased ascend to the heavenly realm, it is best not to do so. These are acts that connect you to the netherworld.
Caller: Hence it is best not to offer alcoholic beverages, correct?
Master Jun Hong Lu: You must not do that as one of the five Buddhist precepts is abstaining from intoxicants.
