In times of minor problems in life, offering 21 Little Houses would suffice. For a serious life problem, it is necessary to recite 49 Little Houses, but to address a disproportionately major calamity, 69 Little Houses would be necessary. Having said this, to completely solve the problem, it is critical to offer Little Houses by batches over time.
BY OFFERING 69 LITTLE HOUSES, GREAT CALAMITIES CAN BE DISPELLED
Caller: After being diagnosed with breast cancer, a Buddhist friend has had one of her breasts removed surgically. In cases like hers, how many Little House would be necessary, at the very least?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Did she offer any Little Houses prior to her surgery?
Caller: Yes.
Master Jun Hong Lu: She must keep offering in order to prevent the cancer from metastasising to the other breast. Start with 69 Little Houses. I would also like to use this occasion to explain this point further:
As a matter of fact, many people are aware of the gravity of the problem they face, but unfortunately, they are unsure of the number of Little Houses that need to be offered. In times like this, it is best to offer 69 Little Houses, as this number serves as a point of balance. When you flip the number around, you see the exact same number. In a nutshell, whenever in doubt, you can offer 69 Little Houses.
Caller: Alright. What’s the difference between 69 and 49 Little Houses? I was under the impression that it had always been 49. Am I right to say that when the problem seems serious, we should just offer 69 Little Houses?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Exactly! A batch of 49 Little Houses can be used to deal with a reasonably serious problem. Let me use a simple example for easier understanding. Assuming you are by the seaside, if a small wave hits you, you can tackle it with 21 Little Houses. To deal with a big wave – a metaphor for a big problem – you would need 49. But the moment a giant wave comes crashing over, you would need to offer 69 Little Houses.
