THE ABSENCE OF RIGHT THOUGHTS IS DUE TO THE EVIL IN ONE’S HEART
Caller: The dharma body of Master Lu said, “A person who aspires to become a Bodhisattva can’t do without the power of concentration and wisdom. Otherwise, they won’t be able to tell righteousness from evil and good from bad.”
Master, when certain issues surface, some Buddhist practitioners are still able to stay composed and apply the Buddhist theories to contemplate and resolve their problems. However, the moment issues related to slanders and inner demons crop up, they will completely lose grip of their original right thoughts. Why is it so?
Master Jun Hong Lu: When it is easy for you to take in what is evil, that’s because there’s evil in you. If you have absolute faith in your Master and Guan Yin Citta, this will never happen. This shows that in your practice all along, you have had doubts about your Master and the dharma door. Hence, the minute you hear others talk negatively about it, suspicion will immediately arise from within. It all stems from your heart.
To give you a simple example, some husbands are a little suspicious of their wives. A sweeping remark of someone such as, “I saw your wife with a man”, is enough to make them fly into a rage, believing in what they hear immediately.
On the other hand, if you have never doubted your wife, knowing that your wife respects and treats you very well, even if others tell you, “Your wife and the man were…” you will go, “Are you kidding me? My wife will never do such a thing.” You only have doubts if you lack firm belief.
Caller: How can we overcome this shortcoming?
Master Jun Hong Lu: You have to increase your faith and understanding.
