(Master Jun Hong Lu’s call-in radio program)
SINCE BUDDHISM PRACTICE IS SAID TO BE ABLE TO ALTER ONE’S KARMA, WILL THE KARMIC RETRIBUTION FROM OUR PAST ACTIONS, BEFORE PRACTISING BUDDHISM, BE ENTIRELY WRITTEN OFF?
Caller: Master Lu, you mentioned before that there is another level of understanding about the law of cause and effect that is “A karma can only be altered by another karma. Practising Buddhism is regarded as the new karma. Hence, it is able to alter the effect of what we are supposed to endure otherwise.”
How should we understand this phenomenon? Should we view this from a higher state-of-mind? Or should we take it as after I have transformed myself, all the retributions from my previous bad deeds will be written off entirely?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It is impossible to write off what we have done entirely. Although you have admitted your wrong doings and repented, the mistakes still exist. It is only that now, you are promising not to commit the same mistakes again.
