GREED CAN EASILY LEAD A PERSON TO ILLICITLY ACQUIRE GAINS

Caller:  From which aspect are Buddhist cultivators most likely to succumb to the acquisition of illicit gains?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Greed! It is most vital that, as Buddhist cultivators, we overcome our sense of greed.  Constantly examine ourselves, ‘Have I been greedy?’  When we are having a meal, ask ourselves ‘Am I greedy?’. Is it appropriate to eat more?  When we are dressing up for a formal occasion, ask ourselves, ‘Do I really need fine clothing?’ Practise restraint.  As soon as we detect that our sense of greed is surfacing, immediately be vigilant.  We will then be able to overcome greed.
