ALL-ROUNDED DILIGENCE
Caller: Master, you often compliment Buddhist friends for being diligent in their Buddhist practice. I am of the opinion that being diligent is not just about going all out to perform recitation. To be deemed as diligent, one needs to study Buddhism in Plain Terms, to safeguard the purity of body, speech and mind, to help others to be spiritually awakened, and to constantly perform self-introspection. Can all these be considered as qualities of being diligent?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes. Diligence should be all-encompassing. If you say this person is good, it will not make the cut if you only say, “He is a good child because he likes to help out with the household chores”. It’s not about being good at only household chores, he must also be good at work, studying and last but not least, he must also be healthy physically. In a nutshell, one must be good in all aspects to be deemed an all-rounded diligence.
Caller: I see. Thank you, Master.
Master Jun Hong Lu: Be good, alright? And please be diligent in your practice.
