WHY ONE SHOULD NOT SIT IN LOTUS POSITION WHILE PERFORMING RECITATIONS

Caller: Hi Master, you have previously advised against meditating and reciting Buddhist scriptures at the same time. In this regard, I’d like to know whether Master was referring to the lotus sitting position?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s correct. It’s best to just sit there in a normal pose. The problem with the lotus position is that it easily connects one to the spiritual world. Do you get it?

Caller: Yes, I do. Some Buddhist practitioners are of the view that one needs to enter a deep contemplation for meditation to take effect. Otherwise, one is not considered to be meditating even though one sits in a lotus position.

Master Jun Hong Lu: What you’ve just mentioned is somewhat correct. That said, let me elaborate further so that you can better understand the issue on hand. One clear-cut example is lying in bed does not mean that we are asleep because we can choose to remain awake. However, lying in bed induces sleep. On the same token, the lotus position more easily induces one to go into deep contemplation.

Caller: Does it mean that it’s best not to be in lotus position?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes, Exactly! The lotus position eases one to enter the state of deep contemplation, which paves the way for one to connect to the spiritual world. Do you know the type of energy field that you are bound to get in touch with? Do you think you would still be in control when this happens or has your spirit achieved a state of perfection that allows you to be in control? That’s the reason behind my advice.
