DURING THIS SPECIAL PERIOD THE RECITATION OF ADDITIONAL EIGHTY-EIGHT BUDDHAS GREAT REPENTANCE (LIFO) PRAYERS IS ALLOWED
Question: On the 15th day of this 11th Lunar month, and on the 17th day, which is Amitabha Buddha’s birthday, we are allowed to recite an additional Eighty-Eight Buddhas Great Repentance (LIFO) prayers. This year these dates coincide with the 1st and 3rd day of the New Year, which also allows us to recite more of the said mantra. May I know if we could recite a total of up to 48 times (E.G. 21+27) LIFO on these two days?
Answer: On special days like these you may perform more recitations, as there will be many Bodhisattvas in the vicinity. At the end of the day, when there are more Bodhisattvas around, you may perform many more recitations, as more Dharma Protectors will also be present. Reciting the mantra 49 times on each of these two days is not an issue.
