PAY A TOKEN SUM WHEN RECEIVING KNIFE, CLOCK OR SHOES AS GIFT

Question: Master Lu mentioned before that shoes are not ideal to be given as a gift as it symbolises bad luck. Thus, even if we have to accept such gift out of our will, we have to give a token amount to the other party as a gesture to signify that we are buying over the item. Likewise, for a used shoe rack (which is still in mint condition, but I was unable to bring along when I shift house), can I give it away to my relative? Should I ask him for a dollar as an act of purchase made by him?

Answer: It is the same, a token sum must be paid. Besides, if someone buys you a clock or knife, you will also have to pay some money and treat it as a purchase. Giving knife as a gift signifies making a clean break between the two, while giving shoes represents bad luck. Giving wallet or purse would signify one is sending his fortune away.
