DO NOT GIVE AWAY TROUSERS OR WALLET
Question: I have heard that trousers should not be donated because, in the Cantonese dialect, the word ‘trousers’ is pronounced the same way as the word ‘prosperity’. On this ground, it has been recommended that trousers not be given away. Is there such a belief?
Answer: Yes, there is. Donating trousers is akin to giving away one’s wealth; it is just like in the case of giving away wallets, if one is wealthy but he always gives wallets as a gift to others, his wealth will become lesser and lesser.
