(Question 119)
FRUIT OFFERING TO BODHISATTVA
Question: Is it alright to use watermelon as an offering to Bodhisattva on our Buddhist altar?
Answer: You may do so. However, please ensure that you do not angle the bottom of the watermelon to face the image of Bodhisattva. You will have to rest the watermelon on its side, with the top and bottom facing the sides. Alternatively, you may place it upright, which may be a better idea.
Question: May I know if there is any guideline on the placement of fruits that are offered to Bodhisattva on the Buddhist altar based on their sizes?
Answer: Yes, there is definitely a guideline on the placement. Fruits that are bigger in size for example watermelon is to be placed on either side, whereas apples generally are placed in the middle.
