TO WALK THE PATH OF THE BODHISATTVA IN THE HUMAN REALM IS TO HELP YOURSELF AS WELL AS OTHERS

Caller: Master Lu, with regards to cultivating the path of the Bodhisattva in this human realm, does it mean that while we are cultivating ourselves, we are in a way also helping others to be awakened spiritually?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Absolutely! To cultivate the path of the Bodhisattva means to help others and to help ourselves.

Caller: Yes. In my view, a Bodhisattva is someone who helps others to be spiritually enlightened after he himself is enlightened. But, in my case, it is more like I am helping others even before I attain that level of enlightenment. Would you consider this as ‘the blind leading the blind’?

Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s not how it works. You should teach others with whatever knowledge you have. The fact that you have this intention to help others, you are already ahead of those who have yet to begin this journey of faith. We can’t wait to be well-rounded in our knowledge, before we help others. We should strive to help as many people as possible with whatever knowledge we have. It is the same with our Chinese or English language teacher or any teacher for that matter. They, too, are not perfect in their knowledge when they teach us. The same applies to university lecturers.

Caller: True!

Master Jun Hong Lu: The theory you are advocating is flawed.
