Excerpts from Buddhism in Plain Terms

Taking Without Telling Is Stealing

TAKING WITHOUT TELLING IS STEALING

Master Jun Hong Lu: When one takes something without the owner’s consent it is considered an act of stealing. Do you know the karmic retribution of this immoral act? Your entire life will be marred by poverty and disdain; without a shred of hope of extricating yourself from it.

Take a look at your schoolmate during those younger days, he already showed an inclination to steal, for example, a pencil. A small matter, you may think, but the next thing you know, they go for a piece of eraser or take a peek at others’ school bags to steal a ruler.

People like this are bound to face a lot of challenges in their adult life, and their effort to strike it rich in life will always be impeded. This is the price to pay for their past misdeeds.
