BUDDHISTS NEED TO CULTIVATE BLESSINGS AND WISDOM ALONGSIDE BLESSINGS AND VIRTUE
Master Jun Hong Lu: Buddhists need to cultivate blessings and wisdom, alongside blessings and virtue. Only a blessed person can find Buddha’s teachings, and only a person with good morals can encounter well-doers and positive advisors.
I often tell people, a merciful person is one who is always compassionate. On the other hand, a person who always holds on to hatred can never be merciful. ‘To disregard your own interests and welfare over those of others’ is a genuinely altruistic state of mind.
As Buddhists, we should be concerned with our state of mind and equip ourselves with many virtues. Without virtue, we fail in attaining an altruistic state of mind. Consequently, a person who often performs virtuous deeds is a person with a higher state of consciousness. This explains why Bodhisattva urges us to be compassionate. It is for us to accumulate virtue. At all times, trust all sentient beings possess Buddha-nature, and regard everyone as future Buddhas. To achieve this, we must be strict and not allowing ourselves to commit any mistakes.
