UNDER WHAT SITUATION WILL MERITS BE STOLEN AND HOW TO PREVENT MERITS FROM BEING STOLEN

Caller:

Master Lu, you said if one dreamt of someone stealing our own things, it means his merits are being stolen.  Under what situation will our merits be stolen?  How can we prevent our own merits from being stolen?

Master Jun Hong Lu:

Leakage of merits and having merits stolen are two different matters.  How can your accrued merits be stolen?  It can never stolen.  However, if you seek help from someone after gaining merits, then the person may take away your merits. Take yesterday for example, I was talking about a ninety plus years old elderly mother who sought her niece’s help to look after her welfare.  In the end, the niece stole all her life savings.  This happen because you have a cause to seek assistance or wish to bear someone’s karma, then it will result in leakage of your own merits.

Caller:

I understand now.  So, how can we prevent our merits from being stolen?

Master Jun Hong Lu:

Firstly, if you feel that your merits are leaking, the best mean would be to pray to Bodhisattva before helping others: “Guan Yin Bodhisattva, I, XXX wish to help him.  I will burn XX number of Little House for him to the best of my ability”.  This way, he will receive the XX number of Little House and will not be able to take away your merits.  However, if you say “I am willing to help him….” Then you will bear his karma.  Cite an example, a person who owed someone ten thousand dollars and you informed all: “Do not look for me; I will only help him bear one thousand dollars”.  Thus, even if you have a hundred thousand dollars in your house, no one can take it away.  However, if you say: “Come, I will settle his debts”, then whatever you have in the house will be depleted to settle his debts.
