THOSE WHO ARE OFTEN CONFUSED WILL FALL INTO A STATE OF DELUSION

Master Jun Hong Lu: Humans are often assailed by confusion in life. Confusion (迷惑) can cause one’s mind to fall into a state of delusion, oscillating between left and right, high and low, and back and forth.

In Chinese writing, the second word, “confusion” (“惑”) consists of two Chinese characters, with the word “or” (“或”) on top and “heart” (“心”) at its bottom.

When a person is confused or things are incomprehensible to them, they will go into a state of delusion and hence unable to differentiate the good from the bad.

You may have experienced people around you who tried to befuddle your judgement on what is good and bad. For instance, you may say, “I can’t do that because it is not a right thing to do”. They will rebuke and say, “Does it matter at all? Take a look around us, everyone’s doing it.” If you are convinced by them, you will fall into a state of confusion and delusion.
