WHAT KIND OF PHYSICAL EXERCISE IS SUITABLE FOR BUDDHIST PRACTITIONERS?

Caller: Master has mentioned that yoga has a special energy field in it and it is best that Buddhist practitioners like us not practise this form of exercise. Would Master please advise us what kind of exercise is suitable for lady practitioners?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Please remember, be it yoga or Tai Chi, they are all related to a particular immortal in heaven. This explains why a person, who practises sword-dance after some time, will receive help from that particular immortal in heaven. All things are related in one way or another.

Now that you are learning Buddhism, think about it, what kind of physical exercise does Guan Yin Bodhisattva practise? Yoga? Tai Chi? None of them! Guan Yin Bodhisattva practises compassion, it’s that simple. If you wish to train your body, do more walking. When it comes to physical training, do not be attached to a certain form of exercise, rather take what you do as a natural workout.

There are many people who perform recitation while walking, this is also a practice of compassion. There are also some who, for the sake of helping others, walk hundreds of miles to their homes. Is this not a form of exercise? This ‘exercise’ of compassion will garner the blessings of Bodhisattvas.
