IF YOU DO NOT ADVANCE, YOU GO BACKWARDS

Master Jun Hong Lu: There is a saying, “If you don’t advance, you go backwards!”

In Buddhism studies, a person who fails to exert some pressure on himself to make progress, is in reality going backwards.

Therefore, in Buddhism, one’s dedication to progress is extremely important, and to do so, one must study earnestly and forge ahead bravely.

Buddhist practitioners should know the importance of being diligent. To all of you who are seated here today, for those who do not study Buddhism with diligence, you are already going backwards in your practice.

You must always understand that whenever, you are not advancing, you are going backwards. Just like a cyclist, if his feet do not keep pedalling, not only will the bicycle stop, it will also go backwards on an uphill slope. Buddhism studies can only go in one direction, that is forward, never backwards.
