HOW TO AVOID BEING A KNOW-IT-ALL WHEN SHARING PERSONAL UNDERSTANDING OF BUDDHISM?
Caller: Master Lu, some Buddhist practitioners may have developed some personal insights during the process of their spiritual cultivation, which they think are good and would like to share them with others. Can they do so? Is that considered being a know-it-all? How to define ‘being a know-it-all’?
Master Jun Hong Lu: It’s very simple. Being a know-it-all means that you think very highly of yourself; it arises from your ego, understand? A know-it-all feels very good about himself, and keeps preaching without listening to others. If you are not a know-it-all, you will listen to others’ opinions while sharing yours. This is called a ‘communication exchange’, understand?
