WILL THE EFFICACY OF ONE’S RECITATION BE AFFECTED WHEN RECITING OUTSIDE WITHOUT THE PRESENCE OF BODHISATTVA? WHEN ONE RECITES THE BUDDHIST SCRIPTURES, IT PENETRATES RIGHT INTO HIS EIGHTH CONSCIOUSNESS TO GET STORED

Caller: Every day, many Buddhist practitioners will complete their daily homework while at work, and they will make use of their night time to focus on reciting Little Houses at home. I’d like to ask Master whether the quality of our recitation would be significantly affected if we perform our daily homework outside, when we are not able to pursue the presence of Bodhisattva?

Master Jun Hong Lu: Such an arrangement works out pretty well too, in my view. When you are outside, it’s definitely better to recite daily homework than Little Houses. For the latter, it is better to recite with a composed mind. As for daily homework, it is more flexible because one can freely pause in between recitations.

Caller: There are times when I view our daily recitation as the ingredient that helps enhance the efficacy of a medicine.

Master Jun Hong Lu: Exactly! The daily homework is the most important.

Caller: For those who finish their daily homework outside either while at work or walking, but without the presence of Bodhisattva (even after offering the heart incense), does it mean that their recitation will go to waste?

Master Jun Hong Lu: No, it will not because it gets stored in your eighth consciousness. Once it enters your eighth consciousness, it will remain there and Bodhisattva knows. Your recitation will penetrate right through without any sense of distinction which explains why it is so beneficial.

In addition, it’s good to perform recitation because what penetrates into your consciousness are the ‘good things’. The moment it gets to your seventh consciousness, your recitation instantaneously goes straight into your eighth consciousness as it doesn’t need to go through the distinguishing process at all. The more you recite, the more kindness there is in your eighth consciousness which brings about more good tidings. This is the precise reason why we must recite the Buddhist scriptures.

You have raised a good question today and hence, many people will benefit from it.

Caller: Thank you, Master. Deepest gratitude to Bodhisattva.
