DO NOT GET INVOLVED IN MONEY WHEN PERFORMING MERITORIOUS DEEDS AS A GROUP
Caller: As we are organising a life liberation activity in a group tomorrow, can Master help identify any areas for improvement? What should the organisers pay attention to? Apart from money-related matters, under what other circumstances could possibly generate karmic obstacles?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Seek more guidance from the Bodhisattvas. Let others know that this is not an organised event; rather, it’s a voluntary activity, a manifestation of everyone’s compassion. Activities like releasing captive lives and making vows are ways to regulate one’s emotions so that one’s compassion can be further developed.
Moreover, it is crucial not to be in direct contact with money. Each individual should make payment to the fishmonger directly for the fish ordered and the organiser should never do that on their behalf. Things will be uncorrupted this way. Otherwise, you run the risk of transgressing in the event that an unwholesome notion crops up in your mind. This is because interpersonal relationships are an interplay of energy fields which could be complicated by the desire for fame and fortune when too many people are involved. This will never be good for anyone. Imagine you are left to yourself, there would be no more concern over fame or fortune, would it? Hence, it is best for one to avoid things like these as much as possible.
