EUTHANASIA IS TANTAMOUNT TO INDIRECT MURDER; CHILDREN WHO CONSENT TO EUTHANASIA TO BE APPLIED ON THEIR PARENTS WILL DESCEND TO HELL
Caller: Some children have negative karmic affinities with their parents and are not filial to them. As their parents age and become terminally ill, they may opt for euthanasia on behalf of their parents. Is this considered an indirect murder?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Yes. This is an indirect murder. It is absolutely wrong to do so! If he opts to euthanise his parents, he is in effect murdering them and will be banished to the uttermost depth of hell, the Unintermittent Hell. That’s the end of him! Even if he has become a disciple and practised Buddhism diligently, his entire merits will turn to dust!
Caller: Is it right to say that euthanasia is a no-no as it interferes with the law of karma?
Master Jun Hong Lu: Euthanasia is akin to granting permission to someone to commit a murder or assisting someone in committing suicide. It’s fundamentally the wrong thing to do! When you talk about euthanasia and our traditional Chinese culture’s concept of “filial piety”, they are two conflicting concepts. This idea of “dying in peace” – do you even think anyone out there really wishes to die?
It’s an excruciating pain that drives them to have those momentary suicidal thoughts. Think, what happens when the pain is gone and they recover? As Buddhist practitioners, we must be resolute in objecting to it. Take a look around you. This is something no established religion will concede to.
