Resentment Arises From Comparisons

RESENTMENT ARISES FROM COMPARISONS

Master Jun Hong Lu: People harbour a lot of hatred. Do you know where it comes from? Why do we harbour resentment toward others? Can you explain it? You might say, “I just hate him”—but that doesn’t get to the point. Let me tell you, to hate others is a sign of a lack of wisdom.

Let me explain: hatred arises from comparison. The moment you start comparing yourself to others, hatred will arise. This is why a person should not compare themselves with others.

If you don’t compare, the mind of discrimination will not arise, and without discrimination, feelings of inequality will not arise.

What I teach is the Buddha dharma. When you perform your daily recitation, you seek an equanimous mind. If you don’t compare yourself to others, how could you possibly be unhappy?
