FREQUENT AGITATION SIGNALS AN IMPENDING KARMIC CALAMITY
Caller: Master, in a recent radio program, you mentioned that intense agitation foretells an oncoming predestined calamity (过劫) and hence, it is crucial to remain composed in order to avert any potential trouble. Master, can you help us understand this concept?
Master Jun Hong Lu: When someone feels extremely agitated, it often signals the onset of a calamity. Let me ask you this: Say for example, an earthquake is about to strike, birds and animals of all types will start to take flight, am I right? Likewise, don’t you think you will be simmering with rage right before an argument? As your anger boils over, it will trigger you to engage in a war of words with others.
Caller: Indeed. Master once mentioned that intense agitation is a precursor to a karmic calamity and hence, it is of utmost importance for one to remain composed, if not, one is basically asking for trouble. Does it mean that if we are able to restrain ourselves during this period, we would be able to dispel the karmic pass which otherwise may develop into something of dire consequence?
Master Jun Hong Lu: That’s for sure! Let me make it clear, ‘to experience a predestined calamity’ (过劫) in this context is not the same as ‘celebrating a special occasion’ (过节) (Note: Both are homophones in the Chinese language). In fact, it means ‘running into a calamity’ that has been predestined. Do you understand?
Caller: Yes.
Master Jun Hong Lu: When one is about to run into a predestined calamity, he will be overwhelmed by unexplainable anxiety that makes him feel like wanting to vent his anger and agitation, as these negative emotions well up inside him. However, if he is able to quell these emotions, don’t you think he is able to prevail over the karmic calamity that could well be lurking around the corner?
