BUDDHA ONCE SAID EVERY ACT OF MERIT MUST BE CARRIED OUT BY ONESELF
Master Jun Hong Lu: Presently, many people request others to liberate lives, or to perform recitations on their behalf. Some are not vegetarian, but then recommend the ideal of vegetarianism to others. Master Lu reiterated the importance for Buddhist practitioners to make their own vows and amass their own merits. He frequently prompts us to ponder the effectiveness of asking someone else to do a spiritual task on our behalf. It is akin to attempting to satisfy one’s hunger by asking another person to eat food for us.
